Music legend Stevie Wonder turns 72 on Friday and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.

Born in Saginaw, MI in 1950 as Stevland Morris, the Motown star is best known for his many hit songs including “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”

He has recorded more than 30 top ten hits, received 25 Grammys (the most ever awarded to a solo male artist) and has sold over 100 million albums.

Wonder was in the city this week for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund’s 34th National Equal Justice Awards Dinner at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Reports indicate that legendary star Rita Moreno sang Wonder’s rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

At the dinner Wonder spoke about several issues happening in the nation. He took the stage for a performance with singer John Legend.

“A woman’s right to control her body, the right to vote and our precious civil liberties are under assault,” Wonder said. “Did you know that? Do you all know that? Without question. America is at a time of crisis, please hear me loud and clear. We must continue to stand together.”
