The video, now confirmed to exist and viewed by journalists, is likely to intensify demands for transparency and reform.

In a disturbing incident that has drawn public scrutiny and raised concerns about police conduct, a man in Tulsa, Oklahoma was injured after being run over by a police vehicle during a routine stop for jaywalking.

The incident occurred in April when Tulsa police stopped the man, whose name has not yet been publicly released, for allegedly jaywalking. According to a report from 2 News Oklahoma, the man initially fled from officers but was later located in a gas station parking lot. When officers attempted to detain him a second time, the situation took a dramatic and dangerous turn.

In a critical lapse of procedure, one officer failed to put his squad car in park before exiting the vehicle. As the arrest unfolded, the unoccupied car rolled backward, striking the man and injuring him. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but the moment has sparked outrage and concern from the public, especially as video of the incident has been reviewed by the press.

Erin Christy of 2 News Oklahoma obtained and watched the body camera footage of the incident through an Open Records Request. After reviewing the footage, she reportedly raised concerns with the Tulsa Police Department, pressing for answers and accountability in the aftermath of what appears to be a preventable and highly negligent event.

Critics have pointed out the troubling nature of the arrest, beginning with the disproportionate response to a jaywalking offense and escalating to a dangerous use of force and procedural failure. Civil rights advocates argue that the situation underscores systemic problems in policing, particularly the criminalization of minor infractions that too often result in violent or harmful outcomes for vulnerable individuals—often disproportionately people of color.

The Tulsa Police Department has yet to issue a public statement addressing the specifics of the incident, the condition of the injured man, or whether any disciplinary action has been taken against the involved officers.

The video, now confirmed to exist and viewed by journalists, is likely to intensify demands for transparency and reform. Community members are urging city officials and law enforcement leadership to investigate thoroughly and ensure accountability.

As this story continues to unfold, many are left asking a simple but urgent question: how does a jaywalking stop end with someone being run over by a police car?
